[Makeup Review] Too Faced Born This Way Foundation in Light Beige

Howdy, people! I’d been wanting this product for quite some time as people are hyped about it! Let me tell you my thoughts about this glorious Lady Gaga foundation thingy! The real question is: does this product live up to the hype?

The REAL point of a foundation is to even out your skin imperfections, skin tone and those small bumps on your skin. I always wanted a foundation that has skin-like coverage, not an awfully full yet cakey finish that makes you look like smashing a makeup pie on your face. This foundation however, claims that it has undetectable, medium-to-full coverage. More of its claims and ingredients are listed below.

What it says about the product:

This oil-free foundation masterfully diffuses the line between makeup and skin. Coverage so undetectable and skin so naturally radiant, they’ll think you were BORN THIS WAY.

Ingredients:

Water (Aqua) (Eau), Cyclopentasiloxane, Glycerin, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Isododecane, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Hexyl Laurate, Dimethicone, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Magnesium Sulfate, Diphenyl Dimethicone, Tribehenin, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Polysilicone-11, Propylene Carbonate, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Cocos Nucifera Water, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Rhododendron Ferrugineum Extract, Alcohol, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Lecithin, Pistacia Lentiscus (Mastic) Gum, Butylene Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Hyaluronate, EDTA, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol. May Contain/Peut Contenir (+/-): Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).

The glass bottle and the gold listing emphasise that luxury feature of the product. I know for some people it does not qualify as a luxury product, but for my college student wallet, it does. It is to my concern that the glass bottle would easily break as I often unconsciously drop stuffs from my grip.

The details that they put on the lid makes you feel like a princess. I really love the lace look alike embossment that surrounds the TF logo. These whole packaging works do worth the price!

People seem to be raving about the pump, but in my opinion, I thought that all foundations come with a pump as all of the Korean BB Creams I experienced do have pumps. It’s nothing new for me.

Since it has no oil in its ingredients, the product doesn’t feel runny on my hands. It feels kind of thick because water is denser than oil. Therefore you’ll feel like you need an extra blending after you apply it on your face.

The first time I open the package and tried it on my face, I exhaled with relieve as I got the exact same shade to my skin. It hasn’t arrived in Sephora Indonesia up until this moment, but I couldn’t wait any longer because I was just too curious. Fortunately, CraveForMakeup has it ready to be sent. No, this was not sponsored, but I was just excited to be able to purchase this because all online shops always had it sold out!

To apply the product, I dispensed exactly one pump on the back on my hand and dot them around my face with my fingers. I would then blend the foundation with Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge on one side on my face, and with Zoeva 102 Silk Finish on the other side of my face. The product blends really easily and settles down quickly, therefore this would be a perfect foundation for a late-to-school or late-to-work makeup. Application with the sponge is preferable a little bit more than with the brush, it seems really natural that way. But it doesn’t show up in the camera đŸ˜¦ I wouldn’t say it has medium to full coverage. Instead, medium is all it does but I couldn’t be more grateful. The finish itself is not dewy yet not matte; after all, it’s supposed to look like your skin! Love, love, love the finish!

On the downside, as I said earlier, since it’s water base, the texture is thicker than the regular foundation. That ‘extra blending’ I said earlier does not work because it settles down really too quickly and will be so much harder to blend if it has already blended on your skin. You’ll also need primer to cover up your pores prior to the application because it doesn’t cover your pores. This one doesn’t really bother me, though; very few foundations do. If you’re looking for the ones that will cover your pores, you can try Korean BB Cream and BB Cushions! Youtubers and many bloggers claimed that the coverage is buildable. Yet to my disappointment, it looks cakey on the second layer of application. One layer is more than enough. Also, it works on dry skin only IF you really do all the steps of your skincare. The day I wanted to write this post, I haven’t done a proper skin care for 2 weeks because I was in the outskirts of the town, so it didn’t show up well on my skin đŸ˜¦ I had to wait until I got back to my precious home to show you how it really applies on my skin. I really have no idea how it works on a oily skin, but to my experience, it doesn’t feel oily throughout the day at all :).

Price: IDR 600,000 (US$ 44.70). Price varies in most online shops in Indonesia.

Final verdict:

Score: 4/5

Pros:

  • Skin-like finish, not too dewy yet not too matte.
  • Does not make your skin oily.
  • Medium coverage; again, skin-like.
  • Settles down quickly and very blendable on the first blend.
  • Feels lightweight on the skin.
  • Very cute and luxury packaging.
  • One layer is more than enough. Second layer will be a con because it’ll look cakey.

Cons:

  • Some of you might need a pore primer.
  • Cannot be blended after everything has settled down, and it settles down quick.
  • Doesn’t work on a VERY DRY skin. I’m talking about VERY. It works well on my well-cared regular dry skin.
  • Be careful to not to drop the bottle!
