Hello everybody! Do I smell an overly-hyped product here?
One thing that everybody notices from last year’s beauty trend: the mid-range Sephora/Ulta brands released a heck lot of new foundations and concealers. Kat Von D, Too Faced, Tarte, Anastasia, Bobbi Brown, and among a lot others, Urban Decay. The precious Urban Decay.
Kathleen Lights has this product as her 2016 favourite, and.. I beg to differ. Let’s just cut to the chase, shall we? Oh, mind you, I haven’t even looked at any reviews of the product. I just knew that many people love it and I blindly purchased it on Black Friday sale. I grabbed the shade #3 because it fit right way onto my skin.
A full-coverage, matte-finish, waterproof foundation that lasts all night.
Cyclopentasiloxane, Water, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Dimethicone, Isododecane, Butylene Glycol, Acrylates/Dimethicone Copolymer, PEG/PPG-18/18 Dimethicone, Phenyl Trimethicone, Magnesium Sulfate, Lauryl Polyglyceryl-3 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Triethoxysilylethyl Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Dimethicone Crosspolymer-3, Propylene Carbonate, Tocopherol. [+/- (All Shades May Contain): CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491/77492/77499 (Iron Oxides)].
Hands down, the packaging is freaking gorgeous and versatile. As a clumsy person since the beginning of my life, I dropped it a few times and it is undamaged until now. The pump that comes along with it is also great as it dispense few product at a time, hence the more control you get.
And that’s all about the things I like from this product.
First of all, the texture is too thick to work with. I feel like there’s no way to do a thin layer with this foundation. With that thick of consistency, you’ll expect that it’ll have at least a mid-full coverage. To my disappointment, my Laneige BB Cushion has even better coverage with a lot less products I have to use. One thing I generally hate about applying foundation is the cakeyness it produces if you’re going for a full coverage look. With this foundation, your face can go cakey without any decent coverage above. Furthermore, it clings onto my dry patches, which added up to the cakeyness (but the dryness proves the waterproof feature they promoted, I guess). Even worse, it oxidises!! ARGH! The only way to make it not oxidising is to not wearing my moisturiser, pearl-based primer, and sunscreen lotion. Without those, the dry patches on my skin would come out, and there’s no point on wearing this during day. There’s simply no win-win solution for me. It may work for those who have oily skin, but.. I don’t know.
Actually, the finish is quite satisfying if I get some skincare done beforehand. When my skin was at its best, I’ll grab this foundation. It has this mattifying smooth finish. But it takes quite a lot and I’m as lazy as a sloth. So..yeah.
Price: IDR 613,000 or US$46 in Sephora Indonesia, but I got this for IDR 504,000 or US$38 only.
- Exquisite packaging.
- May be good for oily skin.
- Smooth mattifying finish if you get it right.
- Very light coverage, not to be expected from that thick of a foundation.
- Go for the thicker layer and it’ll look cakey.
- Clings onto dry patches.
Thank you for reading my post, have a great day! 🙂
